UTEP at ECU Halftime Recap

A recap of the first quarter between the UTEP Miners and East Carolina Pirates in Greenville, NC.

After trading jabs for a couple of possessions, the Miners took the ball 98 yards on 11 plays, and scored the first points of the game on a corner fade to sophomore wide receiver Jordan Leslie. With 4:10 to go in the first, UTEP held a 7-0 lead over East Carolina.

On the ensuing drive East Carolina marched down the field and after a false start penalty on first and goal at the 1 moved ball back to the 6, Pirate sophomore quarterback Shane Caden called his own number and walked into the end zone untouched for the tying score.

First quarter leaders for the Miners include: QB Nick Lamaison - 4-7 for 50 yards for 1 touchdown and no interceptions. RB Nathan Jeffery - 8 carries for 35 yards. WR Mike Edwards - 2 catches for 51 yards.

First quarter leaders for the Pirates include: QB Shane Carden: 7-10 for 58 yards, 1 rushing touchdown and no interceptions. RB Vinavious Cooper: 2 carries for 41 yards. WR Justin Hardy 3 receptions for 35 yards.

After more than an hour weather delay midway through the second quarter, the Miners were able to come up with an interception on the first play back. After a three and out, the Miners punted the ball away, but were able to come up with another interception. Another three and out gave ECU great field position, and they capitalized with a touchdown to Justin Hardy just before the end of the second quarter. Pirates 14, Miners 10.

Halftime leaders for the Miners include: QB Nick Lamaison - 5-13 for 71 yards, 1 touchdown and no interceptions. RB Nathan Jeffery - 14 carries for 71 yards. WR Mike Edwards - 3 catches for 72 yards.

Halftime leaders for the Pirates include: QB Shane Carden: 17-25 for 185 yards, 1 passing touchdown, 1 rushing touchdown and 2 interceptions. RB Vintavious Cooper: 7 carries for 70 yards. WR Justin Hardy 6 receptions for 57 yards, and 1 touchdown.
