In the last 30 minutes, via his twitter account, Anthony January announced that he will be attending UTEP beginning in January of 2013. The 6-7 SF out of the Los Angeles, CA area was originally a part of the 2012 class, but eventually reclassified to the class of 2013.

He had also originally given a verbal commitment to the Miners, but decided to reopen his recruiting as he felt a desire to be close to home. January's father, Anthony January Sr. was a member of the UTEP basketball team in the late 80's, so he does have a connection to UTEP and El Paso.

In 2011-12, January helped lead Taft High School to a 29-5 record, as well as the Section Title, and a number 13 state ranking. He is considered a high 3 star prospect, and has been hearing from the likes of Kansas, Florida, and Memphis, along with just about the entire Pac-12, Long Beach State, New Mexico, UNLV, and San Diego State since reopening his recruiting.

The addition is a big one for the Miners, who already have a ton of ton of young talent at the 2/3 positions. January will likely take up a role alongside guys like Julian Washburn and Twymond Howard. It'll be interesting to see just how all three fit together, and exactly what kind of plans coach Floyd has in store with such play makers at the small forward position.

As far as we know, January will not be eligible to play in the 2012-13 season, but should be eligible immediately at the start of the 2013-14 season. MinerRush will bring you more on the commitment of Anthony January as we find out more about it.
