UTEP Basketball Recruiting Update

Some of you all may have already heard, but Miner Illustrated is reporting that former Southern Miss G LaShay Page will be taking an official visit to UTEP this weekend.

Page has given a verbal commitment to South Carolina, but according to MI, sources close to Page say that he will be in El Paso on Friday.

Page plans to graduate from Southern Miss in the summer, and will apply for hardship waiver in order to be eligible to play immediately. That waiver may have a good chance of being granted as well. Page, originally from South Carolina, lost his mother recently, and has a four year old daughter who lives in South Carolina.

Those factors, combined with the fact that he will soon be receiving his degree from USM, should allow the point guard to be eligible for play in the 2012-13 season. However, I'm not exactly sure if he'd have the same chances of making a case that "hardship" waiver, should he head somewhere besides his homestate.

Page averaged 11.5 points and 3.3 rebounds a game in his junior season, and he will still have one year of eligibility remaining. Should he choose the Miners, it is still unclear how the scholarship situation will shape up. Stay tuned to MinerRush for more on Page, as it becomes available.

Also, a 6'4 shooting guard by the name of Jordan Cornish (LA), has reportedly received an offer to play for the Miners. Cornish is part of the class of 2014, and currently lists Alabama, La Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., and Tennessee is his list of possible landing spots.

Other names to look out for:

2013 6'4 G Darin Johnson (CA) - Offer - Also receiving offers from Va Tech and Washington State, among others.

2015 6'0 PG Juwan Gooding (MA) - Interest - Also receiving interest from Georgia State, UCLA, and Xavier.
