UTEP Spring/Summer Sports Update

The football and basketball seasons may be long gone, but there's still plenty of Miner sports to go around. Here's a quick update on what's going on right now around Miner Nation.

Men's Golf Tied for 6th at Jim West Intercollegiate -

The UTEP Men's golf team turned in a 295 in the opening round of the Jim West Intercollegiate on Sunday, putting them 11 shots back of tournament leader Stephen F. Austin (284). Martin Simonsen led the way for the Miners, shooting an even par 72. The tournament, in Victoria, TX, will continue through tomorrow.

UTEP Softball Continues to Struggle -

The UTEP softball team was in action against Marshall yesterday, but they simply had no answer for the offensive assault the Herd put on. The Miners lost 8-0, and have now dropped 10 in a row since beating Southern Miss in their first two conference games. The loss puts UTEP at 12-25 overall, and 2-11 in conference play. But, with 17 games still to play, its not too late to get things turned around.

UTEP Soccer Releases Schedule/Begins Exhibition Play -

The UTEP Women's soccer released their 2012 schedule, and featured on the slate will be 5 matches against 2011 NCAA championship participants. The Miners will get their shot at New Mexico St. on September 12th, and will be hosting the C-USA championships at University Field beginnig on October 31st.

The Miners are currently in the middle of their exhibition schedule which began back on February 26th against Arizona St. The Miners took on both Texas Tech and NMSU over the weekend, and they will wrap up the exhibition slate later this month with matches against Arizona and New Mexico.

Women's Golf Takes UALR Title -

The Lady Miners' golf team took their first tournament of the season last week, winning the UALR Classic in Little Rock, Arkansas. UTEP broke 900 for the second time this season, shooting an 897 overall, besting Tulsa (898), Middle Tennessee St. (899) and Eastern Michigan (899). Up next for UTEP will be the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Chandler, AZ April 9th through the 11th.

UTEP Tennis Falls On Senior Day -

The UTEP tennis team's rough season continued over the weekend, as they fell to Abilene Christian 6-1 on Senior Day at the El Paso Tennis Club. The loss drops the Miners to 2-15 on the season. The team will take on Arkansas St. and Southern Miss before the C-USA championships begin later this month.
