The Dig: Time to Follow UTEP QB Nick Lamaison on Twitter Edition

Ready for the game against Stony Brook this Saturday!! Be sure to check it out!less than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

In The Quick Dig:  So much to do, so little time.... Let's start with some social media talk.... If you're not on Twitter, you're missing the chance to communicate with UTEP's finest, including QB Nick Lamaison (@nicklamaison) as well as your favorite UTEP commentators.  No, not you Jon Teicher (@UTEPMinerVoice), we're talking about ourselves, Adrian Mac (@MinerRush)and Asalom (

Gentleman, it's Thursday.  That means one thing and one thing only.  Football starts tonight.

The Rush:  The Stony Brook Seawolves like to run the ball.

"This is going to be fun," defensive tackle Jamie Fehoko said. "This is what we prepared for in Socorro. We're ready not just physically, but mentally. They are a running team, they like to run the ball. They think they can run it against anybody.

Here's a Bit More on the Seawolves from GoSeaWolves.org.

What's a Seawolf?  Admittedly I didn't know.  It turns out it's a fish.

Wait, What?  Every now and again I stop paying attention and stumble onto a Joe Muench blog post.  This time, Joe heard a rumor about a downtown coliseum being built.  That has him believing that UTEP will move their men's hoops games from the Don Haskins Center into this mythical arena within five years.

Yes, this is what this article actually says.

It would be more convenient for El Pasoans to drive to a new arena Downtown than to find parking around UTEP; it's always a headache. The new parking garage helps, but it's still a traffic jam on Mesa Street. Also, an arena Downtown would be a great boost for Downtown businesses, a major goal of the city and the movers and shakers. They say an arena needs and "anchor" team to be successful? UTEP could be the new arena anchor team!

Party Time:  UTEP is ready to roll out the red carpet for Miner fans who enjoy the "Staycation Weekend" and come out to opening day. On Gameday.....

A Miner "Kick-Off Bash," featuring music, inflatable games and giveaways including appearances by the UTEP band, cheerleaders, Golddiggers and Paydirt Pete, will take place from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday at the Geology lawn. The first 2,000 fans into the stadium will receive rally towels, and the first 3,000 will receive Koozies (drink holders).

And don't forget about Friday... It's MinerPalooza!

Minerpalooza will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 2 on the UTEP campus and will include a pep rally for the UTEP football team. Guest speakers will include UTEP President Diana Natalicio, football coach Mike Price and women's basketball coach Keitha Adams. Some of the new additions this year will include more music performances, a longer parade route, an expanded Kids Zone and a VIP section, now called Pete's Pavilion.

Do You Know Malcolm Moore?  If not, here's your chance to meet UTEP's newest hoops star.

Need a lift?  Sun Metro has you covered.  Yes, the bus service.

With Texas A&M Off to the SEC.....

Will TCU Get the call to Join the Big 12?

TCU is small and private, but so is Vanderbilt . And while Vanderbilt is rarely any good in football, Nashville lacks the recruits and the football passion of Fort Worth. It’s a whole different mindset. TCU wants to be great; when it needed that $100 million to improve the stadium it took just 95 donors to raise $143 million in a matter of weeks. This is the Little Sisters of the Rich. As far as television, the best that can be said is TCU doesn’t hurt in the Dallas market. It doesn’t help much at this point either. The Cowboys rule and a half dozen other schools have far, far more impact. That isn’t likely to change.
