Former Miner is Starting QB for IFL team
Former Miner, Lorne Sam, has been named the starter for the IFL's Oklahoma City Bricktown Brawlers. Sam, who transferred from Florida St, was a multi-positional player here at UTEP, and signed with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of college. Lorne also spent some time with the Green Bay Packers, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL before landing in Oklahoma City. Sam Had a shaky first start in which he went 11-31 for 84 yards, two touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He did, however, also have 78 yards rushing and three scores. We'll see how Lorne shapes up as the new starter of the Bricktown Brawlers. In other news, former Miner basketball player Derrick Caracter, was arrested on multiple charges Sunday in New Orleans following the Lakers loss to the Hornets. Initial reports claimed that Caracter struck a pregnant waitress. Caracter was arrested on charges of battery, public intoxication, and resisting arrest. Later reports clarified that the waitress was not pregnant, but still a horrible misstep for a very talented individual already trying to put a bad reputation behind him.
