The UTEP Miners (2-5) take on the Southern Jaguars (3-7) tonight at 7:05 p.m. in the Don. The Miners are coming off a 65-54 loss at UNLV, while the Jaguars are coming off a 65-61 OT loss at Southeastern Louisiana. UTEP put up a great effort in the loss to UNLV, staying within striking distance the majority of the contest.
These two teams last met on December 31st 1984, a surprising 84-75 victory for the Jaguars in El Paso. Southern is led by junior G Derrick Beltran, who averages over 12 points a game, and the Miners are led by senior F Gabe McCulley who in his three games back from injury is averaging 11 points and 7 rebounds a game.
We all know how young these Miners are, but its games like these in which a young team must earn their stripes. The Miners have played solid in their last three outings, two of which were on the road, but now its time to capitalize and get a much needed win at home. This game marks the first of five in the next week, and two back to back at home. Tickets for the next two games have been slashed to $9 a piece (copper reserved) so get out and support your team. Go Miners!!
