UTEP @ UNLV Open Gamethread

The UTEP Miners (2-4) visit the the UNLV Rebels (9-2) in a potential preview of a future "MWCUSA West" matchup. The Rebels lead the all-time series 8-3, including a 4-1 mark in Las Vegas. The two teams met last on November 24th 2008 in El Paso, an 80-67 UNLV victory. The Rebs also took the last meeting in Vegas 84-71 back on December 1st 2007.

The Rebels come into the contest at 9-2, including a 90-80 win over then #1 North Carolina that boosted them into the top 25 polls. Two losses to Wichita St. and most recently #15 Wisconsin has since knocked the Rebels from the rankings. UNLV boasts four players who score in double figures, led by senior G/F Chase Stanback who averages over 15 points a game.

The Miners come into the game at 2-4, including their win over New Mexico St. on Sunday. Gabe McCulley made his return two weeks ago, and he really came into his own on Sunday with 18 points, and 13 boards. Mike Perez and Julian Washburn have also begun to play big roles for this Miner team. This will be the toughest test for this young Miners team so far. Hopefully they're game. Go Miners!!
