CTF Lands Washburn Jr.

6

Coach Tim Floyd announced today the signing of three players for the 2012 recruiting class. Perhaps the biggest of which is Chris Washburn Jr. Chris, the brother of current Miner Julian Washburn, was quickly becoming a highly touted recruit. The 6'9 F/C is rated as a 4 star athlete by Scout.com, and had recently cut his list of schools down to Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma St., Texas A&M, and UTEP. Also signing this week were Twymond Howard and Dustin Watts. Howard is another big time recruit rated as a 4 star athlete by Scout. The 6'6 SF also had offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Marquette, Mississippi, and Oklahoma St. Dustin Watts is a 6'3 G out of Stoneridge Prep in Seattle, WA. Coach Floyd expects Howard to be able to play the 2 or the 3, and Watts should be a nice combo guard. Still not quite sure on the status of Anthony January, but I would expect that we hear he has signed soon. January is a 6'7 F rated as a 3 star athlete (Scout), and has a ton of ability. Two other recruits, Dwayne Benjamin and MeKale McKay, should sign letters of intent as football signees, and be solid dual sport athletes. Last but not least, ESPN top 100 athlete Winston Shepard is still undecided. New Mexico, Oklahoma St., San Diego St., UNLV, and UTEP have all offered. I'm not exactly sure what UTEP's chances are, but I wouldn't rule anything out with CTF at the helm. Either way, 2012 is shaping up to be, easily, the best UTEP recruiting class in recent memory. Those signees, along with the current group of talented youngsters, will be a scary group for years to come.
