The Stat Shack: Examining How UTEP Ranks Statistically Through the Seasons 1st Quarter

It's time to take another look at how UTEP's season is shaping up statistically.  The weeks are flying by and we're through the first quarter of the season.  Memphis had some talent on defense, and the Tigers forced the Miners to win with special teams and defense.  Here's where UTEP ranks right now on offense.

UTEP's 2010 Team Offense Statistics Through Week 4

Offense Actual NCAA Rank C-USA Rank C-USA Leader
Rushing Offense 175 44 6 Tulsa
Passing Offense 246.5 39 5 Tulsa
Sacks Allowed 1.25 34 5 Marshall
Total Offense 421.5 39 5 Tulsa
Scoring Offense 28.25 59 5 Houston

Defensively, we're definitely starting to see some improvement.  The Miners now have the nations 82nd ranked total defense, up 8 spots from last week.   We saw some very real defensive progress last week when it comes to getting defensive penetration.  UTEP is still last in the C-USA in tackles for loss and sacks but know that the Miners had more TFL's against the Tigers (7) than they did in the previous three ball games (6).  The Miners also doubled their sack total when they picked up 2 against the Tigers. The Miners are now 2nd in the C-USA in interceptions with 6.
