Where I Come From: Most Memorable Miner Moments

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011.

What are your most memorable Miner football moments?  I'd like to say that UTEP's 1985 upset over the defending National Champion's, BYU, is my #1 most memorable moment as a Miner fan.   Sadly, I was only 3 years old when it happened.  Thank goodness for the internet, because a new generation of Miner fans can watch videos like the one below and get a sense of just how huge the win was.

So, while the BYU win was huge for UTEP, and is definitely a classic, I have to go with the following three choices as my all-time favorite wins.  If you have the time, watch these videos, they will tell the story in a way I can't do in words.

3.  September 6, 2006.  UTEP Takes Texas Tech to the Edge

If you remember the game or not, you need to watch the video below.  It's a great recap of one of those incredible West Texas shootouts that you have to see to believe.  I realize that UTEP lost in heartbreaking fashion, but you're crazy if you weren't incredibly proud of the performance the Miners gave that night.  Just Push Play.

2.   2010:  UTEP Beats #12 Houston

One of my closest friends in law school is a die-hard Coog fan and alumni.  Houston, coming off of wins against Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, came into El Paso with hopes of a BCS bid in their heads.  They left with nightmares of Donald Buckram, and needing help to win the C-USA West.  And, the win gave me bragging rights that were invaluable.

1.  UTEP wins the 2000 WAC Championship

UTEP really needed to show the city, and the WAC, that they could win a league title and the 2000 team was the one to finally get it done.  It was an incredible moment for Miner fans.  Sadly, I can't find any video of the celebration after UTEP won the WAC Championship against Rice.  But, I think this picture just about sums it up.
