Going Backward: McKinney Boyd QB Jonovan Griffin Decommits from the UTEP Miners

This is a tough loss. For the second time in two weeks the UTEP Miners have lost a commitment from their 2011 recruiting class to a Big 12 school.  Last week, Texas Top 100 overall prospect Brandon Durant, a linebacker, announced he was going to Missouri.  Tonight, Rivals.com's Brian Perroni and Scout.com have confirmed that Jonovan Griffin, the QB/WR prospect out of McKinney Boyd has decided to commit to the Oklahoma St. Cowboys.

This is a big loss for UTEP's 2011 class.  Durant was perhaps UTEP's highest rated in state prospect as he was listed as the 71st overall prospect in the state via the prestigious Lone Star Rankings (Rivals).  Griffin might have been UTEP's second highest rated prospect.   ESPN graded Griffin at a 76, a three star prospect overall.  The score of 76 was tied for UTEP's highest recruiting grade by ESPN.com.  According to reports, Griffin will play cornerback at Oklahoma State.
