There have been rumors flying about this for weeks, but now it's official. Linebacker Brandon Durant from Copperas Cove, TX has decommitted from UTEP and committed to the Missouri Tigers. Durant was perhaps the highest rated of all of UTEP's incoming class as he was rated as the 71st best overall prospect in the state of Texas. This has to worry coach Mike Price. As UTEP's season is fading away, will other programs pluck away the top of his 2011 class?
More on this tomorrow, but more good news along the recruiting front. Here's a link to his Rivals page.
The Shiver has a video up that gives Miner fans their first glimpses of our newest guard DeShun Watkins. He's every bit of 6'4 and can definitely handle the ball well... Oh, and in the tradition of Randy Culpepper he can dunk pretty well too.
More on this tonight- very exciting news for Tim Floyd as Ragland is a recruit whose buzz is definitely on the rise. He's a 6'5 small forward from Chillicothe, Ohio. Ragland is the first commit for next year's recruiting class.
Creighton, VCU, and Wichita State have also offered the 6'8 post prospect.
Watkins, a 6'4" guard is being recruited by UTEP, Kentucky, Missouri, Texas A&M, Oregon State, Kansas, and Iowa State. His uncle played for Tim Floyd at Iowa State. Excerpt: "Missouri plays a good style and press full court a lot. Kentucky and UTEP let you freestyle a lot, and Kansas runs a lot of good plays.
California quarterback prospect Chad Jeffries decided to choose San Diego State over UTEP, Oregon State, and Utah. The wait for the first high school recruit to commit with UTEP continues....
Malcolm Moore, a 6'7" forward out of Tyler Junior College spoke with the Iowa Gazette again today. According to the report, Iowa, Marquette, Baylor, and UTEP are in his final four. He said that UTEP's Phil Johnson is recruiting him. "I talked to them (UTEP), and the thing is they need players, they're losing players. I'd be able to go there and play right away," Moore told the Gazette. More on Malcolm's game in the coming days, information on his style is scarce at this point, but there does seem to be genuine interest in him by Coach Floyd.
