Three games in, it isn't John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, or anybody else on top of NBA.com's Rookie Ladder. Who is? UTEP's Derrick Caracter. DC had his 3rd straight double double yesterday, and he is looking like a lock to make the Lakers squad.
This link is constantly updated, but right now, DC is ranked #2 on the NBA.com "Rookie Ladder" meaning he's been the second best rookie at the NBA Summer League- ahead of John Wall and 56 other players drafted ahead of him. #1? His Laker teammate Devin Ebanks.
Watkins, a 6'4" guard is being recruited by UTEP, Kentucky, Missouri, Texas A&M, Oregon State, Kansas, and Iowa State. His uncle played for Tim Floyd at Iowa State. Excerpt: "Missouri plays a good style and press full court a lot. Kentucky and UTEP let you freestyle a lot, and Kansas runs a lot of good plays.
I have no idea when UTEP launched this site, but it's a great way to learn about the '66 team. Hat tip to Chris Avila who wrote a heck of a piece on the way UTEP currently honors the '66 team, without which, I might never have stumbled upon this site. Avila thinks it's time to construct an on-campus museum, or at the very least, an elaborate display kiosk, to honor the team. This website, is a good start.
In less important, but important nonetheless, news, the EPT is also reporting that Whataburger is giving away free "Breakfast on a Bun" sandwiches tomorrow morning. Win.
Meh. Best of luck in the future.
Looks like the report from ESPN's Dana O'Neill stating that the USC Infractions Report would be released today may have been a bit premature. (Hat tip to JACELP for finding this link)
It still looks like Moultrie is debating between Kentucky and Texas to finish out his collegiate career (Mississippi State is also in play). I gave BON some thoughts on Arnett's game- Good place to check out what Horn fans think of him.
Rivals is now listing that UTEP has given an offer to SG D'Angelo Harrison out of Ft. Bend, TX. For more on D'Angelo, check out this Fort Bend Sun article. Kansas State, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, and Arizona State are among the other D1 schools who have offered Harrison.
Good read on Tim Floyd by Alicia Caldwell at the LA Times. Caldwell has some nice quotes from Bob Stull and Floyd himself who discusses his mindset as he takes over the UTEP program. Also, he mentions how he is trying to schedule a long term scheduling contract with our former WAC rival, New Mexico. Floyd on the pending NCAA ruling on alleged USC improprieties: Floyd has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing and he's been reluctant to speak about the case, saying he has been asked to remain quite because of the ongoing investigation. "It will all come out." On UTEP's program: "Tony left it in good shape... We're going to build (this program) the way we built USC." On scheduling: "It use to be you scheduled a bunch of barking dogs. We are going to try to play the toughest out of conference schedule. I'd rather be playing Kansas, Duke, UCLA than playing a one and one with (less competitive schools)." Note: ESPN is reporting that the NCAA Committee on Infractions will release their findings on USC Friday-- circle this day on your calendars, Miner fans. Though the NCAA cannot impose sanctions on UTEP directly, they can place recruiting restrictions on Floyd if they determine he did commit a major violation while head coach of the Trojans.
