Excerpt: Derrick Caracter, a 6-9 big man selected No. 58 out of the University of Texas-El Paso, has also agreed to terms with the team. Caracter’s deal is guaranteed at the rookie minimum for 2010-11 with a team option in place worth approximately $788,000 for the following season.
Three games in, it isn't John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, or anybody else on top of NBA.com's Rookie Ladder. Who is? UTEP's Derrick Caracter. DC had his 3rd straight double double yesterday, and he is looking like a lock to make the Lakers squad.
This link is constantly updated, but right now, DC is ranked #2 on the NBA.com "Rookie Ladder" meaning he's been the second best rookie at the NBA Summer League- ahead of John Wall and 56 other players drafted ahead of him. #1? His Laker teammate Devin Ebanks.
Here are some nice quotes from Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak on the selection of UTEP's Derrick Caracter. Excerpt: "We had him going a little bit earlier in the draft," said Kupchak. "Of the two or three guys that were on (our draft board), we felt most comfortable with (Caracter)."
My bad on the Derrick Caracter to Denver deal. The Nuggets "tried like hell", but couldn't pry DC from the Lakers.

Former UTEP standout Derrick Caracter will workout for the Milwaukee Bucks next week. Best of luck to DC. UTEP Needs some Miners to get on some NBA rosters for recruiting purposes.
6-11 foward Arnette Moultrie has decided to keep his name in the NBA draft and not return to UTEP for his junior season. A surprising decision considering the disappointing sophomore year Moulrie had. However, most NBA execs agree of Moultrie's upside, and he is projected to go in the early to mid second round. AM Note: Thanks for posting asalom. I'm guessing some team has given him a second round promise. Well, best of luck to Arnett.
It's obviously very early for a mock draft, but I was surprised to see Arnett Moultrie projected as a mid second round pick. DC, sadly, didn't make the cut on this very, early look at where the prospects might shake out. Hassan Whiteside, of Marshall, is on the edge of the lottery. I think he's going to be a lot better than some of the guys in the top 10.
This really isn't a surprise. Arnett had NBA expectations after his impressive showing in the World Championships. It doesn't hurt him, at all, to get a sense of where he stands with the nation's best pro prospects. But, when the article that announces you declare ha a paragraph that starts with "Arnett is coming off a disappointing sophomore season," it's not a good sign. Here's hoping Arnett comes back to El Paso and improves his draft stock for the 2011 Draft.
