Central Florida's Keith Clanton is Out to Shock the Country

CBS' Jeff Goodman landed the first interview with Central Florida's Keith Clanton to talk about why the senior stayed with the Knights. Clanton talks about the re-recruiting and his decision process during his free agency. As we talked said after his decision, Clanton could help the Knights stay with Memphis at the top of Conference USA, and he has NBA aspirations and a good shot at getting some looks this summer. Sounds like Clanton is on the same page: "We can still win the regular-season title," Clanton said. "And play for pride. That's important, along with my hopes to play at the next level."

Old Dominion Unlikely To Leave Early

According to a tweet by Ed Miller of the Virginian-Pilot, Old Dominion's AD Wood Selig has said that an early jump to Conference USA is unlikely. Going to be a long season for a lot of Monarch athletes.

How the Big East Can Save the World (the world of college athletics)

If the Big East is going to survive as a football conference, it needs to take drastic action, and do so quickly. This article is a blueprint for what it needs to do, both in the short-term and the long-term.

Conference USA & Fox Sports Announce New Television Contract

Huge news from the C-USA athletic offices as the league has announced a 5 year contract with Fox Sports. Fox Sports has agreed to air 20 C-USA football games over their networks (including Fox Sports Southwest in El Paso) from 2011 through the 2015-16 season. Also, the league will have 10 mens basketball games, and 5 womens, shown over the Fox family of sports networks. The C-USA Football Championship Game will also move to Fox Sports. As realignment talk continues to swirl, note that this deal will be huge for the Houston Cougars and Rice Owls who should be featured prominently on Fox Sports Houston. If Houston stays, the C-USA West should stay in tact. According to the Orlando Sentinel's Iliana Limon (EP Shoutout!); the new deal will bring in $14.5 million. C-USA has already signed a secondary TV deal with CBS College Sports, so we will still have games there. Now, no C-USA games will be shown on ESPN. But, know that the old contract brought in only $9.5 million annually. So, now the C-USA will see a huge revenue increase, have more games aired, and have vastly superior regional flexibility in broadcasting. This is a big deal.

Chris Low Predicts Georgia Will End Up in Liberty Bowl

I am torn on this one. On the one hand, a New Year's Eve bowl would be a gift; on the other hand, I don't want to play a team from Conference USA. The Music City Bowl is the earliest SEC bowl game (December 30), but it offers an opportunity to renew the rivalry with Clemson. The Compass Bowl is the weakest SEC tie-in, but it also takes place on January 8. While I am not crazy about any of these options, each has advantages that might make it the dog with the fewest fleas. Go 'Dawgs!

If the SEC Gets Texas A&M, Should Mike Slive Go After Houston, Too?

It wouldn't be my preference, but blackertai makes his case for the Cougars. Go 'Dawgs!
