Billy Clyde Gillispie is coming back to West Texas. Here's hoping Bob Stull and new Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt can renew the UTEP- Texas Tech series in hoops. ESPN's Eamonn Brennan reports that former Miner coach Billy Gillispie is actively pursuing the newly available head coaching job at Iowa State. It's just ironic that Tim Floyd came to fame at Iowa State and ended up at UTEP and Billy Gillispie might now complete the opposite path.

Mack Rhoades chose the former Texas Tech head coach to take over at Houston. The real news, in my mind, is what happened with Billy Gillispie? Did he simply take too long to make up his mind?

Excerpt: "UTEP is serious about Tim Floyd. The Miners can get over the USC issues as the school and Floyd wait for the committee on infractions to issue penalties. Houston is close to getting Billy Gillispie, the former Kentucky, Texas A&M and UTEP coach. But both of these C-USA jobs could still hit a snag due to the nature of both candidates."

Scratch Sam Houston State's Bob Marlin off the list of potential coaches for the vacant head coaching job at UTEP. Also, it looks like Mach Rhoades' Houston Cougars are zeroing in on Billy Gillispie or Tim Floyd (Houston Chronicle).

The article actually focuses on UCF, Houston's, and UTEP's possible pursuit of Billy Gillispie and Tim Floyd, but along the way, Katz drops in this nugget: "The UTEP job might be more of a rebuilding situation if Derrick Caracter leaves, as expected, for the NBA draft. Caracter wasn't on the team charter back from San Jose last week after losing to Butler. UTEP officials are expecting him to declare for the draft and possibly not return to school to finish the semester."

Chaos. Lines are already being drawn in the sand. Some Miner Fans are using social media to push for Billy Gillispie to assume his old role.
