Matt Willms visiting UTEP

Tweeted this morning that he is visiting UTEP and Missouri this weekend and is then he is done with visits.

This is strange news to me because this talented big man has been linked to Providence for so long.

I've posted his tweet below for all to see, and yes he said UTEP not UNLV as some doubters said.

Matt WillmsGoing on an Official visit to the Missouri Tigers this weekend and then the UTEP Miners right after that! Matt Willms no more visits, most likely

1) merger is DEAD 2) UTEP decides the future of midmajor cfb

With AQ status a relic of the past, there is no rationale for the MWC/CUSA merger. There are hardly enough decent teams/schools teams between CUSA and MWC for one relevant conference let alone two. Will both the MWC and CUSA fall off the face of college football map or can UTEP cobble together a mid-major conference that can at least challenge the BigEast for relevancy? There are three options for UTEP. 1) remain in CUSA. Result- 12 team CUSA battles to keep conference champion in irrelevant bowl matchup against MAC. 2) join MWC alone. Result- see part 1. 3) join MWC and bring 3 or 5 other teams (Tulsa, SoMiss, Rice, Tulane, UTSA/LaTech) along crushing CUSA and giving the MWC a fighting chance for relevancy. UTEP has to take the lead in this.

Ultimate Miners Bracket: (8) 1967 Miners v.s. (9) 1987 Miners

The defending champs returned most of their key players for 1967's team including Bobby Joe, Lattin, Shed, Cager, and Worsley, but were injury-plagued. How would they do against the likes of Hardaway, Jeep, Soup, Richmond, Gates, and Sandle?

4 of 7 ESPN Experts say January lands at UTEP

Seven of ESPN's recruiting experts have weighed in on where the best undecided prospects will wind up playing their college ball. Four of them believe Compton small forward prospect Anthony January will play for UTEP. Interestingly enough, one other expert (Reggie Rankin) believes UTEP will not sign January but another small forward being heavily recruited by the Miami Hurricanes right now: Florida's Billydee Williams.

The Ultimate Miners Bracket

A bracket featuring all 17 of the UTEP men's basketball teams to reach the NCAA Tournament. Does any other Miner team have what it takes to beat the heavy favorite 1966 National Champions for the title of Greatest Miner team ever?? Probably not, but it'd be fun to imagine these matchups!
