UTEP freshman point guard Lulu McKinney was named C-USA Freshman of the Week for the second straight week to end the non-conference schedule.
McKinney tallied 11 points and seven assists in 34 minutes during yesterday’s 63-53 win against Alcorn State after UTEP’s holiday break. The seven assists tie a career high, with five coming in the second half as UTEP pulled away from the Braves.
McKinney becomes the first Miner since the 2008-09 season to garner the award on multiple occasions.
UTEP will open conference play Friday night when they host North Texas at 7:00 p.m. Mountain Time, then face Rice at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Don Haskins Center. UTEP is 5-4 on the season.
