I'm not normally a betting man. But to liven the blogosphere a little here at Miner Rush, I thought I would start a score prediction thread. After watching a few games today, it seems no major upsets occurred as of 4:12 pm PST. And I'm talking D-1. And please don't tell me Nevada over Cal in Berkeley is an upset of any sort.
I follow Cal, live 30 miles form Berkeley and want Jeff Tedford fired ASAP. But Nevada puts together decent teams and beat Cal last year, I believe. Some games today started out as upsets but ended up as merely moral victories (San Jose St. v. Stanford). I know, I know, you say "But Gorilla Man, Ohio beat Penn State AT College Station!" And to that I answer: PATERNO!
A former football power fielding a decimated team, with a new coaching staff, in front of 100,000 shell-shocked fans, where every visible symbol of the deceased icon who headed the team for 60 plus years was purged like the target of a Soviet putsch is in no position to be declared the favorite in anything except the running for the "Major huevos to stick around and play here after all that" award.
Today, I say, the Nittany Lions may have lost the game, but won the hearts and minds of maybe a few more fans. It's gonna be a looong season down in Happy Valley. As for today's game in the Sun Bowl, which one Vegas betting site neglected to mention as the locale for the game, as opposed to every other game it covers. The spread was 29. Unless I misread the betting line. So someone please help me out with that if I got it wrong. I say the final score will be: 57 - 23 OU. Happy Footballin' to y'all.
