Fight Cancellation Story Beginning to Take Shape
While the surprising announcement that the June 16th fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Andy Lee at the Sun Bowl would be cancelled is now in the rearview mirror, the whole story is just beginning to take shape. Rumors are swirling that Chavez Jr. is currently dating the ex-wife of cartel leader El Chapo Guzman's son, and that potentially is the "perceived threat" that most are talking about. There is still no public knowledge of any actual threat, and the actions taken by the chancellor seem to be preemptive. Although the decision made may seem to be a "reasonable" one, without any direct threat, that decision is completely bogus. El Paso has been host to many events such as this one, always without incident. We remain one of the safest cities in the country, and its a shame that the UT Chancellor has put a black eye on the city, IF, there have not been any direct theats. El Paso mayor John Cook has estimated the economic loss for the city at $4.5 million, but the indirect negative impact on the economy could reach numbers far greater than that.
