Around SBN: Despite Relocation Drama, Coyotes Overcome Adversity

It has been announced that the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA will officially merge together to create one conference beginning as early as the 2013-2014 season. This apparently will be a new conference, with a new name. More information to come as it becomes available.

i like this set up.

Renewed rivalries yet keeping some we built with cusa. I can see having 3 maybe 4 bids in basketball.

What kind of name are they planning to have? Conference USA seems like a perfect fit.

Conferance America! Ha

Well, we still have yet to see what this will actually look like

As it stands, there really isn’t any room for UTEP on the West side of things. There will have to be some expansion for that to happen. We’ll see how it all plays out.

I would like to see some expansion

Solely in the East so we can get some damn travel partners. Jeez I thought CUSA sucked for our fanbase – this is going to be ridiculous. Oh well, I guess it’s all about TV money in the end anyway.

You all will be ok

There won’t be much inter-division scheduling. UTEP will likely shift West, probably pick up Utah St., and hopefully add Temple for football and FIU. That will make 20 football schools, and 18 in other sports. So, the farthest you all will travel regularly will be to Houtson or Tulsa…Not as bad as Fresno or Hawaii.

Yea, that's true

We’re losing our only hate-filled rivalry in ucf, which is what bugs me. Not that we’re losing ucf but that Marshall is losing that hate connection.

We’ve got what I’d define as a friendly rivalry with ECU because of the plane crash connection but anytime our fanbases get together for a game, it’s like seeing old family rather than wanting to punch them in the face (ala ucf).

I can’t see us developing a comparable rivalry soon with any of the other schools; possibly FIU after the bowl game this year and the recruits we’ve stolen from them but even that would take time.

Honestly rivalries will be made

Look at GTown-Cuse. That’s one of the greatest of all time, and we probably won’t see that game very much anymore. But, it happens. Within a few years, once everything settles down, you’ll find yourself some rivals. Who knows, maybe Temple.
