The Field is Set: The 2011 Buick Conference USA Tournament Matchups
Well, today turned out to be somewhat anticlimactic as UAB, Tulsa, UTEP, and Memphis all took care of business and secured first round bye's in the Conference USA Championship Tournament. As soon as the official bracket, with game times, becomes available, I will link it here. For now, here's a look at the way the bracket looks. UTEP, the #3 seed, will play the winner of the Marshall and Houston game on Thursday at 5:30 MST.
Wednesday, March 9
11:00 am: #8 East Carolina Pirates vs. #9 Central Florida Knights
1:30 am: #5 Southern Miss. Golden Eagles vs. #12 Tulane Green Wave
5:30 pm: #6 Marshall Thundering Herd vs. #11 Houston Cougars
8:00 pm: #7 SMU Mustangs vs. #10 Rice Owls
Thursday March 10 (All Games on CBS College Sports)
11:00 am: #1 UAB Blazers vs. ECU/UCF Winner
1:30 am: #4 Memphis Tigers vs. USM/Tulane Winner
5:30 pm: #3 UTEP Miners vs. Marshall/Houston Winner
8:00 pm: #2 Tulsa Golden Hurricane vs. SMU/Rice Winner
Friday, March 12 (CBS College Sports)
2:00 pm: Highest remaining seed will play at 2
4:30 pm: Other Semifinal
Check it out. For UTEP to advance to the C-USA Championship, the Miners might have to beat Marshall and Tulsa. That's obviously a tough draw as Marshall has talent and depth in the front court and Tulsa is playing great basketball right now. That said, UAB might have to play a very tough UCF team and Memphis- who Mike Davis simply cannot beat as a head coach to make it there.
Gentleman, it's March.

"BCS does not apply to basketball. It's football. You can't tell me Memphis is a mid-major. You can't tell me UTEP, with its history of players, crowd attendance and NCAA Tournament berths, is a mid-major. Same for Gonzaga and St. Mary's - it doesn't apply. These are high-major programs that can play. All we can do is win games and hope others recognize. … We should pass the eye test - if anybody ever watches us." - Tim Floyd
We jumped up to #57 in the RPI, we got a big boost from our OOC, not sure who from...it wasn't Michigan

Me either! Harvard jumped 7 spots with that win, and Michigan didn't even budge?
All I know is that we are in better shape than I thought we would be in. If we make it to the Tournament Finals, we have a legitimate shot at getting an at-large bid. The Bubble teams in the ACC, Big-12 and SEC are not going to do well in their Tournaments IMO. That should knock them down, and open the door for us to sneak in. OF COURSE, I expect we will get the Auto-bid anyways.

dont automatically put Marshall ahead of Houston
Houston dropped a heartbreaker at home 63-62 in the only meeting of the year
Tough Tournament
No easy games jump out at you. Conference USA is pretty tough top to bottom this year.
