PrintHere is your C-USA Game Night Open Thread. The stakes have never been higher for UTEP fans as the dust will finally settle on the C-USA Regular season tonight in Birmingham. UTEP's three point win at Moody Coliseum today guarantees that the Miners can finish no worse than tied for second in the C-USA. Here's the deal:
1) If ECU beats UAB: UTEP Will Be Co-Champions in the C-USA. The Miners cannot earn the #1 seed but can get a share of the title.
2) If USM beats Tulsa: UTEP will be the #2 seed in the C-USA Tournament.
3) If Tulsa Beats USM: UTEP will be the #3 seed in the C-USA Tournament. Note that if UAB loses and Tulsa wins, the Hurricane can also earn a share of the C-USA Championship along with UTEP and UAB. In that scenario, Tulsa would be the #1 seed, UAB 2nd, and UTEP the #3 seed in El Paso since TU would have a 2-1 record against the others. USM would be 1-1 and UTEP would be 1-2.
Tulane and Memphis are in a barn burner as we speak. Donnie Jones is heading back to Marshall tonight in what should be a hostile, near sell-out environment. Southern Miss vs. Tulsa and ECU at UAB both tip off at 6:00 pm MST.

So, USM, I believe is now guaranteed the 5 seed because they can’t get past Memphis.

This is an update of some bubble teams
Alabama beat Georgia today, that helps them a lot, even though I still think they don’t even belong in the conversation, Richmond won, Clemson won, Illinois won, and Washington St is winning by 4 with 4 to go. Indiana St beat Wichita St so they have to be done. I think Michigan St should be done, but you know how that goes. Marquette is getting hammered by Seton Hall and should be done, but again its the Big East. Memphis squeaked it out. UAB is still yet to be determined. Colorado St plays SDSU tonight. Colorado/Nebraska play tonight, and Baylor has Texas.
there was a strong UTEP crowd at the SMU game
I dont know excatly how many were wearing orange n blue but i do know SMU had been averaging 2,215 in conference games. Todays game against UTEP drew a season high of 4,076. Thats almost double!

This said, I will also state that we are not the same team that they faced on January 8th of this year. We are a squad that has come to believe in what CTF has been preaching from day one and are now executing that plan. Hope we see them in the conference tourney.

I think it was execution more than luck. We played good D, and let the shots come from the offense.

I see it the other way around....
I believe they got lucky that we only made 5 of 12 from the 3pt arc; only made 15 of 25 FT’s; and Gabe McCulley fouled out early and we had 2 minutes stealers on suspension and that we only beat them by 8. Just my take….

I can think of 2 advantages over marshall
1. they should be forced to play the 8pm game
2. they are playing in the Don Haskins Center

Honestly the only team I'd have any slight reluctance in faceing would be ECU....
Only because I believe our squad and their squad would try and play above their heads due to the national attention that game fostered. Our squad might come out and try to hard and theirs would come out with something to prove.
