Texas Tech Hires Ex-UTEP Coach Billy Gillispie | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
Billy Clyde Gillispie is coming back to West Texas. Here's hoping Bob Stull and new Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt can renew the UTEP- Texas Tech series in hoops. I think BCG is an absolute homerun hire for Tech and it's nice to see him get a second chance in coaching.

When he gets talent in Lubbock, Tech will be really hard to beat. I think hes a better in game coach than Rick Barnes and Turgeon.

barkley repeated his Big East opinion this morning
on the Dan Patrick radio show. Interesting that he noted how he has been influenced so much by ESPN that his brackets favored Big East teams, even though he knew they were over-rated. At least someone is pointing out the obvious.

but with as weak as the bubble was this year it was hard not to give them 11. Maybe this will finally be what makes people realize the BE is not as strong as they think it is. 11 bids, and only 2 teams in the sweet 16. That’s pathetic. People will give the excuse that 2 teams got knocked out by other BE teams, but that’s what happens when you have 11 teams. Not only that, but what about the other 7 teams that went down?? Including Pitt, Gtown, WVU, and St Johns. On top of that, almost all of the conference’s first round wins were over double digit seeds. Only one team overachieved, Marquette.
It wasn't a very good week for C-USA, but hopefully UCF, and SMU can at least win the CBI, and CIT. That will be a little consolation. I think.

I never saw this texas team as a threat. A rick barnes-coached team is NEVER a threat. I dont see any texas school making a run within the next 10 or 15 years.

Has Billy Clyde learned to sign his name???
I say this only partly in jest. Correct me if I’m wrong but …
He left UTEP pretty easily because he never signed his contract.
He left Texas A&M without signing his contract there.
He left (was fired) from Kentucky and didn’t sign his contract.
The first two times I can see a sneaky guy who kept putting off the signing of his work contract with UTEP and A&M as a guy looking to climb the success ladder. OK, fine. But not signing at UK? I never heard the final verdict on this one but UK was gathering its attorneys with the intent of not paying him the ‘buyout’ because, wait for it, he never signed his contract. Doh! Maybe he got his money, I don’t know. But for the past two years or so he’s been doing a song and dance sales pitch to every college that needs a new coach (including UTEP!) that would embarrass Willy Loman.
Oh well. Good luck, Billy. Good luck, Tech. And Tech, if you can get his John Hancock on the dotted line that’ll put you ahead of three other schools I can think of. cheers!
