Tulane Hires New Orleans Saints Assistant Curtis Johnson to Replace Bob Toledo
The head coaching carousel around the C-USA continued at warp speed as the Tulane Green Wave announced yesterday that they have hired Curtis Johnson to be their next head coach. Johnson replaces Bob Toledo who resigned after compiling a 15-40 record in New Orleans. Tulane quarterback Ryan Griffin sounded excited with the hire:
"We now have a face and a name Ñ it's not just that limbo period, which was kind of weird," Griffin said. "Just how he addressed the team and his attitude, it's really exciting. Really exciting."
Johnson was on the Miami Hurricanes staff in 2002 when they won the National Championship. There, he coached Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne among others. For the last 5 years, he has been on Sean Payton's staff with the New Orleans Saints as the wide receivers coach.
Payton had this to say:
Said Payton on Johnson's hiring: "I'm biased, but that's an outstanding decision, and I'm excited for him and it's well-deserved. É We'll miss him. He has been exceptional. The good news is he won't be too far away. I think it's a great decision by Tulane, and I think it's one where they're lucky to have him."

Ha-- lol
When I saw that UAB got Garrick McGee it surprised me. That’s a BIG TIME hire for UAB and he is exactly the kind of coach Stull would target in hoops— great pedigree, worked with innovators, and young and hungry.
Axes Up. Miner Rush - For UTEP Miners Fans
Great Hire for Tulane.
Johnson has always been successful. The saints receivers are some of the best, Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne are two of the best in the league, and the guy was already in New Orleans too. I expect Tulane to have a pretty good offense soon.
"BCS does not apply to basketball. It's football. You can't tell me Memphis is a mid-major. You can't tell me UTEP, with its history of players, crowd attendance and NCAA Tournament berths, is a mid-major. Same for Gonzaga and St. Mary's - it doesn't apply. These are high-major programs that can play. All we can do is win games and hope others recognize. … We should pass the eye test - if anybody ever watches us." - Tim Floyd
