UTEP AD Bob Stull: Mountain West and Conference USA Merger May Include All Sports
Could the MWCUSA be more than a football alliance aimed at attracting a BCS bowl bid? Or are we reaching closer to a two or more division league that covers the nation in all sports? El Paso journalist Chris Lopez, via his twitter, noted that UTEP athletic director Bob Stull dropped this bomb at todays press conference.
How good could a basketball conference that has San Diego State, New Mexico, UNLV, Memphis, Marshall, UTEP, and others in it be?
For those of you against the merger, does this make you or more less excited about it? More on this as it develops...

I don't like it
Only way it makes sense is if Houston, UCF, SMU, Air Force, Boise State and SDSU go to Big East. Then it would be a 16-team football league and 15 for other sports.
Even with that it doesn’t make sense. I think I read somewhere that C-USA is going after UTSA?
I'm not a huge fan either
And I’d actually prefer all those schools to stay for a merger, but then we don’t exactly need each other. I haven’t heard much about UTSA, but they’re definitely up and coming. I’d still like to see the Big East just fall apart, and then C-USA pick up the remaining pieces. But, if all these C-USA schools leave as planned, I’d like to see us go after schools like Temple, maybe FIU, maybe a Louisiana School, or maybe UTSA or UNT.
I need to really stare at the way it would look with 16 to see if I like it
I actually liked the shared title game becaue I really did think it would have a chance to force BCS into an auto bid- especially if BCs added another game to its slate. But, the more I think about this from UTEP’s perspective the more I like it. Assuming it means a better TV deal and I would guess that’s the driving factor, it would be cool to see some old rivalries put back together. One thing I have to know: Is the Big 12 sticking with 10? I they do and this move means no more realignment, I would be more inclined to like it.

True and it would just as good chance, if not better, than
The Big east in retaining or grabbing a BCS auto bid.

Definitely
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that other AQ conference continue to expand. If the BE loses anymore schools, I can’t imagine the Houstons, UCFs, and Boise Sts wanting to go over there. It makes no sense. Like I been hoping for, the BE falls apart, and C-USA picks up any remaining pieces.
I don't have a problem with this. Our basketball schedule would be insane.
Just hope the AQ works out on the Football side of things, although I don’t honestly think the BCS will be around as it exists today for much longer.
"BCS does not apply to basketball. It's football. You can't tell me Memphis is a mid-major. You can't tell me UTEP, with its history of players, crowd attendance and NCAA Tournament berths, is a mid-major. Same for Gonzaga and St. Mary's - it doesn't apply. These are high-major programs that can play. All we can do is win games and hope others recognize. … We should pass the eye test - if anybody ever watches us." - Tim Floyd
