Around SBN: Two Minutes Of Thunder Basketball Wins The Game

Stunning news in its own right but that's not where it stops. Houston's backup QB Cotton Turner broke his clavicle and is also out for the season. Yes, Houston has lost their #1 and #2 quarterbacks for the remainder of the 2010 season.

I'll have a full post up later tonight or early tomorrow morning on how this changes the C-USA West Race but right now, I'm still just stunned at this terrible turn of events for the Coogs.

Here's hoping Keenum can recover in time for NFL Draft preparations next spring.

the dreaded worst non-contact injury

When they said his knee buckled i knew he was done. I actually feel terrible about predicting an injury to this guy. I felt like i jinxed him or something. I was simply pointing out that keenum avoided injury all this time which is rare for a qb. I guess i can appreciate brett favre’s durability and streak.

they lose the backup too for the season

It’s up to that broadway kid. I dont see them doing anything—not even a bowl game.

The West Is Wide Open!

This opens the door for UTEP to make a run and challenge for a spot in the conference title game. Just when Houston loses their best player we are going to get ours back.

Let's not jinx Buckram or Vittatoe

Its true that we maybe getting Buckram back but as the sitution with Keenum, a previous injury begets another injury due to a lack of confidence and compensating for the first injury.

Athletes need to come back from an injury in a slow and deliberate way as not to reinjure or create another injury due to overcompesating and overprotecting the original injury and gaining confidence that healing has taken place.

True..

I agree and that is why Buckram hasn’t been rushed. The season is long and this team has enough talent on offense with a senior laden O-Line, TV, Kris Adams, and all those receivers not to mention the depth at running back. UTEP has been able to put up great offensive numbers without Buckram and his return will only make this team more capable of making a run for the conference title. But it also helps if the defense can get a sack!!!

Everybody will wish these guys the best and offer prayer for their recovery

This is truly a sad day for all of CUSA. Houston, Keenum have placed the limelight on their program and all of CUSA.

I only hope that Houston HFC does not bolt to a BCS school as is feared by the UofH alumns and fans.

sumlin made a horrible decision by staying

He is going to regret it. A mediocre season wont get many looks by winning bcs programs. Turner gil he’s not.

Amac—does sumlin’s teams remind you of…mike price’s teams(like mentor i guess)? All offense and no defense. It’s like hes determine to outscore to win. Defense wins championships—why i always thought houston would never win a conference championship even under sumlin. Sumlin may be stuck there for years unless a celler dweller bcs school comes calling.

A Celler Dweller is usually the one to place the call

Auburn—no; Florida State—no; Iowa State—maybe; Washington St—-maybe; erc…

I think his best way to the big time...

Will be to get a call from a really big program as an offensive coordinator and then parlay that into the next step. One thing that could really help is if he can take his third string QB and turn out a decent offensive performance.
