Goldmine: FB & BB Recruiting Nuggets from Around the Interweb
AM Update #2: Check out the FanShots for new recruiting news. Scout is reporting that Mike Price has offered Reggie Gilbert, a DE out of Arizona.
AM UPDATE: I inserted some information on Jordan Daniels, a PG prospect out of Ediwanda, California. Scout.com is now reporting that Tim Floyd has offered the prospect a scholarship.
Not enough for a full Dig; but I wanted to toss out some new recruiting nuggets that have come my way.
Basketball
- Jacques Streeter, a point guard transfer prospect from Cal-State Fullerton may be on his way to El Paso. Fox Sports reporter Jeff Goodman tweeted that it's a done deal.
Source told FOXSports.com Cal State Fullerton transfer Jacques Streeter, a 6-0 soph. who averaged 11.8 ppg and 4.7 apg, is headed to UTEP.
Streeter sounds like he might be a good one. He was a first team All-Big West Freshman team selection in 2008. Last year, however, his shooting percentage went down from over 43% to just over 37%. Miner fans will love this, though. Last season against New Mexico State, Streeter had 20 points and 10 assists to lead Fullerton to an 84-72 victory over the NCAA Tournament bound Aggies. Also, against UCLA, he chipped in 11 points in a whopping 45 minutes in the Titan's near upset (68-65 loss).
He's played against elite competition and held his own. If Tim Floyd does end up bringing him in, as a potential replacement to Julyan Stone in 2011, then he will be the most proven guard on the roster.
- Jordan Daniels (PG): Scout.com is also reporting that UTEP has offered Jordan Daniels, a 5'10 point guard out of Etiwanda High School in Etiwanda, CA. Jakeprobst first brought this to our attention several weeks ago in the FanShots, but now we have good reason to believe that "interest" has turned into an offer. Full Court Press, a site dedicated to covering California high school and JC basketball prospects ranks Daniels as the 6th best PG prospect in the state and had this to say:
Ultra-quick but very small PG has real ability to beat defenders off the dribble as well as score from the perimeter. Most scouts love his feel and ability to run a team. Size and strength are the big questions that need to be answered this summer if he is to be a significant contributor above the mid-major level. Very good student is hearing from UTEP, Gonzaga, San Diego, Portland, USC, UNLV and Oregon State.
The same site also lists Daniels as 5'8, not 5'10, as listed by Scout. He may be undersized, but perhaps if these scouting reports are true, his quickness will offset that.

Football
- Scout.com ($) is reporting that Frisco (Liberty) High wide receiver Cameron Brown is receiving heavy interest from UTEP. Brown told Scout, "Tulsa, Kansas, Kansas State, UTEP and SMU are all recruiting me right now. I've been hearing a lot from those schools."
According to Scout, Brown is 6'2, 195, and runs a 4.59 forty yard dash. According to Rivals, Brown has already been offered by Minnesota.
At 6'2, with a 38' vertical, you have to love the athletic potential Brown could bring to any team at the wide receiver spot.

Could be a solid gets...
Streeter, sounds like a good replacement for next season in a year that will probably feature several underclassmen with no Div. I experience. He could be ready to take the helm immediately with some minor grooming.
Brown, sounds like he’d be a star in the CMP offense. It’ll be interesting to see what recruits will be doing in the face of all these expansion going-ons.
Anytime I see 6'2 and Wide Receiver, I get excited right off the bat
MM, note that I just updated this post to include Jordan Daniels- Scout says Floyd has offered him a scholarship now. He’s another PG prospect, true high school product, so more of a long term solution possibly than Streeter.

Curious....
Kinda strange to see CTF offering an undersized PG a full ride this early on? Then again, Daniels may be a serious diamond in the rough that is on nobody elses radar. In CTF I Trust!
Agreed, Brown looks promising.
He really isn't on anybody's radar
But, his name is starting to pop up all over the UTEP blog-o-sphere. Floyd is really showing that he intends to recruit California first. But, if I’m not mistaken he hasn’t signed a single player from Texas (Bohannon was a Barbee recruit). He’s really taking advantage of his roots from USC.

What am I missing?....
Not trying to be a downer on Daniels I just find it odd that CTF would want to sign him this early on. Granted he is a highly regarded PG in Cali, I’m just curious about this offer. I would think that Coach could hold out for an equally ranked and more conventional sized PG (5’8" concerns me). Again, CTF is the professional and if he wants to ink him this early on, then there must be a great upside to him.
Then again....
Given the list of quality BB schools that are also on his interest list, he is apparently a top quality recruit. I’d love to know what his perimeter shooting stats are. I bet he’s a sniper!
I suppose....
I’m bothered by reading this in the same article….
Joseph Soto, 6’0", Rio Mesa (Oxnard CA)
Lefty is quick off the dribble and is a real sleeper in this class. Outplayed Top 10 PG Jordan Daniels (Etiwanda CA) in 805 Elite’s upset win over Pump-n-Run Elite at the recent Pump May tourney.
Watching some of his highlights,
I see why a coach would fall in love with him. He’s lightning quick, and definitely looks like a pass-first, distributor of a point guard. Check out some of his highlights in the FanShots.
