1 and 2: UTEP Lands A.C. Patterson and Wardell Crutchfield III
Finally. The Miners have reportedly landed the first two recruits of the 2011 class. First, Wardell Crutchfield III, an outside linebacker prospect out of Baldwin Park, California, appears to have committed to UTEP. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune first reported that UTEP offered Crutchfield a scholarship on June 21. McCardell posted on his MySpace page that he has in fact decided to accept the UTEP offer. According to MaxPreps, Crutchfield averaged 11.4 tackles per game last season.
MI's Chris Avila is reporting that UTEP has also received a commitment from A.C. Patterson. Patterson is the son of Miner defensive coordinator Andre Patterson.
A.C. is a 6'0", 300 pound center prospect. He is listed by Rivals.com as a two star recruit and he chose UTEP over an offer from Nevada.

Not bad for a 1 and 2...
I believe AC Patterson is going to be a lot better than his “recruiting stars” indicate.
Crutchfield appears to have a pretty impressive resume. Let’s hope that translates over at the Div I level.
