Steve Kaplowitz of KROD: Randall Dickey Will Replace Tony Barbee
So, the Floyd rumors do not appear to be true. It looks like Bob Stull has tabbed one of Tony Barbee's top assistants to take over the UTEP mens basketball program. The University has not confirmed the Kaplowitz report yet.

Dissapointing
Don’t get me wrong, I like Randall a lot, but is he the right guy? We know virtually nothing about his coaching ability other than that he is great recruiter. Plus, is he going to put butts in the seats?
Butts in the seats? That's probably a no.
I think Stull is banking on the fact that he can win with what Tony Barbee has left behind and hopes that winning will keep the fans coming. Dickey came along under Doc Sadler, not Tony Barbee. I want to know, what kind of offense will he run?
Remember when Billy G left and Doc took over. He took a team comprised of players used to running the floor, pressing, and playing aggressively on offense and tried to slow the tempo down to a crawl. Dickey has a team built to win now if they continue the dribble/drive offense or something similar. One that takes advantage of UTEP’s slashing guards with the ability to score if its there or distribute to the bigs or a perimeter shooter if it’s not. What will Dickey do with these players?

Hmmm
Steve just updated his post and said that Bob Stull contacted him saying that the decision had not been made yet, so the job is still in Limbo.
Hope so
No disrespect to Dickey, but to go from two high profile names to a ho hum assistant shows UTEP doesn’t or can’t pay what these coaches want to get paid. Not surprised if true but pretty dissapointing. Let’s hope it is a diversion for a bigger signing.
