Updated RPI
I realize that its still early in the season, and that RPI doesn't necessarily mean too much at this point. But, we're quickly approaching the new year, and the midway point of the season. A team's RPI is going to start being a little more meaningful real soon here. Because of that, from here on out I'm going to go ahead and give an update on Conference-USA's RPI ratings every week. We saw that some teams still had very high RPI's a week or two ago, so let's see where they stand now.
- Southern Mississippi - RPI 22
- Memphis 44
- Central Florida 45
- Alabama-Birmingham 76
- Marshall 115
- UTEP 126
- Tulsa 142
- Rice 160
- Houston 210
- East Carolina 219
- Tulane 247
- Southern Methodist 298
As you can see we've definitely made some moves as a conference. Conference-USA still ranks tenth in the nation in overall conference RPI, behind the power 6, the MWC, A-10, and the Colonial. Obviously, strength of schedule (SOS) means a lot too, but I felt I'd let the rest of the non-conference schedules play out so we can get a true feel of C-USA teams SOS.
There are some huge games coming up that will have a profound impact on individual teams' RPI and SOS, and the conference's as well. Among them are Thursday's matchups between UTEP and BYU, and Memphis and Georgetown, and later matchups between Memphis and Tennessee, and UAB and Duke.

One thing that cannot be understated....
UTEP beat the #1 defensive team in the nation on Monday (2010-11 NCAA Men’s Basketball Team Defense) and while I’ll agree that we were a bit flat to pull out this win against a scrapy SFA team, it’s still a very solid win. I know this doesn’t necessarily tie into the RPI topic, however as most of you already know, I don’t start looking at RPI until February. It’s still nice to see the improvement regardles.
C-USA getting respect
We need to step it up a notch. UCF is leading the way with another nice win over Umass. It is critical that tommorrow night C-USA makes a bold statement.
